A Chinese researcher confined in the USA manages to order more than 100 masks for Colmar healthcare staff!

We would like to thank Dr. Xin GUAN and her family for their donation of masks. It is a very nice gesture of solidarity!

In 2014, she was motivated to perfect her already sharp scientific training by coming to work in the team of the Vine Biotechnologies and Environment Laboratory, during her post-doctoral experience.  She particularly appreciated Colmar and its citizens. In October 2015, she gave birth prematurely to a baby boy at the Civil Hospital of Colmar. She was so well looked after, that today, upon learning that even her former research lab was helping the Pasteur Hospital by donating all the personal protective equipment, she and her family decided to make a gesture of support to the healthcare staff who had taken such good care of her.

She is currently in Maryland, USA, from where she organized all the logistics to send the package with the help of her family who live in Chongqing, where currently – in all pharmacies – FFP2 and surgical masks are available without any restriction.

Her 5 years old son, currently in Chongqing with his father and grandparents, draw a picture for the medical staff. I see the message “stay at home” with a smiling hand, sending the message that while staying at home you can reach out and help those who need it most! Bravo Sébastien!

Mask journey:

A little more than 100 masks, half of which were FFP2s, were sent from Chongqing on April 1st 2020. The packages transited through Guangzhou until April 8th , then Cologne on April 9th  to arrive at ROISSY-Charles de GAULLE on April 10th  where they were blocked pending authorization. Today, April 15th , they have just been delivered to Colmar.

We immediately called the Hospital PASTEUR who informed us that they were provided with masks and Prof. Christophe BERTSCH, our director, contacted Yves HEMEDINGER, first assistant of the Colmar city hall. He immediately and personally went to the town hall. These masks will be redistributed to general doctors and nurses in Colmar who are in contact with the town hall via the Facebook page “colmar solidaire”.
